Creative Dating Month (and a few ideas)

It’s February, the month of love. It also happens to be Creative Dating Month! The purpose of dating is to spend time with someone in order to determine whether or not you would be a good fit for each other. Don’t think of it as a super formal interview, like you would have for a job (though you should definitely have good questions to ask your dating partner)! It’s just a relaxed time to get to know another person.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we thought it would be fun to share some of the creative dating ideas that have been complied by students (mostly high school) over the course of the last few years:

  • look for cards in a card store that express your sentiments to each other; then “give” the cards to each other to read

  • dress up in fancy clothes and eat at a fast food place

  • volunteer at a service organization together

  • take a “coin flip trip”; every time you come to a stop, flip a coin to decide which way to go

  • make homemade gifts for each other

  • go people watching at the mall

  • cook a meal together for one of your families

  • go to a local library and explore your family trees together

  • create a couple’s video

  • go stargazing and learn about the different constellations visible in your area

Dating can be scary, and it certainly isn’t something to be taken lightly. It’s supposed to be fun, though, and is a great way to get to know another person a little bit better! A key thing about dating is that you are trying to see how this person reacts to different situations, so it’s important that you do different things on each date instead of just eating at the same restaurant each week!

Do you have creative dating ideas that you’ve tried out? We would love to hear about them!
